
Getting UV Curing Right (Without Burning Your Prints)
If you’re heading to the 2026 Printing Expo, you’ll notice we aren’t talking about generic bulbs this year. That’s boring. What actually matters is how we build UV modules that can keep up with high-speed lines without accidentally scorching your materials. It’s a balancing act. You need enough power to cure the ink, but not so much that you melt the substrate.
The Sweet Spot: Power and Speed
Here’s the thing: your line speed dictates everything. If you’re pushing a wide-format printer at 50 meters per minute, a “standard” lamp is just going to leave you with tacky ink. We don’t guess. We tweak the wattage and voltage until we hit the exact millijoule requirement for your specific ink chemistry. Now, we could just crank up the power density to save space on your machine, but that puts a lot of stress on the reflectors. To fix that, we use high-purity aluminum. It pushes the UV output exactly where it needs to go—downward—so you aren’t wasting energy.
Dealing With the Heat
High-output UV lamps gethot. Like, really hot. To keep things under control, we use a special doped quartz glass. It shifts the light toward the UV-C or UV-V range, which helps cut down on the infrared (IR) load. But you can’t just plug these in and walk away. If your cooling—whether you’re using air or water jackets—isn’t built for that heat load, you’re asking for trouble. The lamp will burn out way too early, or worse, your PET or PVC will warp right on the line. We also use reinforced connectors because standard wiring just doesn’t hold up when it’s being baked every single day.
